An archaeological assessment was carried out on the site of a proposed residential dwelling at Dundalk St., Carlingford, on 18 March 1995. The site lies within an area of archaeological potential as outlined in the Urban Archaeology Survey of County Louth and lies just outside the south wall of the town. The site previously contained a building, which was demolished prior to the testing. The natural gravel was exposed over the entire site and it is apparent that no archaeological stratigraphy survives here. Two trenches excavated at each end of the proposed house confirmed that the gravel was not redeposited. Any deposits that may have existed here formerly would presumably have been destroyed by the construction of the previous building.
