Archaeological assessment and trial excavation were carried out for Longford County Council between 22 May and 2 June 1995 at the proposed residential site. The results of the investigation have shown that the site is of archaeological potential and requires further excavation prior to development.
The site, a garden area since the early 19th century at least, is close to a disused graveyard site which may have been the site of the 'Grey Friary' of Clonbroney, which was dissolved in the 16th century. During the trial excavation, though most of the area tested was clear, a small portion of human cranium was found in the east part of the site, and there is evidence that a small number of graves may be present. For this reason, it was recommended that excavation takes place prior to construction works in the areas to be disturbed by housing development and service trenches, and that archaeological monitoring takes place during construction works.
