Trial-trenching was undertaken at a proposed development site on 28 October as part of an archaeological evaluation study. Planning permission for the construction of an apartment block and ancillary services contained a condition which necessitated that the ground work for the development be monitored by an archaeologist. However, as the site is located within the zone of archaeological potential for Leixlip, the developers decided to undertake a full archaeological evaluation prior to the commencement of construction.

Three trial-trenches, with a combined length of 27m, were excavated by machine, and were dug so that the bases were c. 0.3–0.5m below the surface of the sterile 'natural' subsoil. The location of the test-trenches was chosen to reflect the location of the main foundation trenches of the proposed development and also to present an overall picture of the archaeological potential of the site. Careful monitoring of the excavated material, coupled with detailed examination of the sections, indicated that no features of archaeological significance existed. Considering the absence of identifiable archaeological deposits and the fact that the proposed building is to be timber-framed and will have shallow foundations, it was agreed with the relevant authorities that no further archaeological work was necessary.
