A watching brief was maintained on a proposed bungalow in Cloncurry, Co. Kildare, on 31 August 1995. The site of the proposed development lies close to the ruins of a medieval Carmelite friary. It was also the site of an Early Christian foundation of St Ninian. The excavation of foundation trenches for the proposed house, drainage pipes and the pit for the septic tank were all archaeologically monitored. The sod was also stripped from the area to the north of the proposed house. Natural boulder clay was exposed quite close to the surface in most of the trenches with the exception of the trench for the east wall of the proposed house, where a ditch-like feature running north-south was uncovered. A sherd of 19th-century pottery was recovered from the fill. This feature most likely represents one of a series of old drains which formerly ran across the site.
