An archaeological assessment was carried out on a proposed development site at Bridge St., Swords, which lies within the northern edge of the zone of archaeological potential identified by the OPW Urban Archaeological Survey. Six test- trenches were opened on the site which indicated that the central portion of the site was covered by reinforced concrete slabs resting on a bed of granite hardcore 0.4m thick. It formed the floor of an industrial buildings, since demolished. No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were encountered on the site and no remnants of mill buildings or channels were discovered near the river. The entrance area, near Bridge St., had a relatively recent fill up to 2.2m deep, but no evidence for early buildings or deposits.
