A test investigation was undertaken in advance of development at Palmerston Upper, Co. Dublin. The subject of the test was an earthen mound. The examination was carried out between 16 and 20 January 1995.
Four trenches were cut through the mound. A buried sod layer was revealed, indicating that the mound was the result of deposition. No associated features were found and the presence of modern pottery indicated that the mound had no function and was of relatively modern date. A large stone-lined pit, possibly used as a flax pit, was located to the south-east and this was the likely origin of the material making up the mound.
