The site was located to the west of Killiney graveyard and church, a church thought to date to the late 6th/early 7th century. The early church consists of a small nave and chancel with an early square-headed doorway in the west wall. In the medieval period a large extension was built onto the northern side. The graveyard is roughly oval in shape, bounded by an old granite wall.
In all, three trenches were excavated by mechanical digger, radiating out from the graveyard wall. Subsoil was encountered between 0.3m and 0.4m, with no archaeological layers located. The topsoil was very mixed owing to localised dumping on the site and large-scale root action. The western section of the graveyard wall extended 0.5m below present ground level, with the base of the wall sitting on boulder clay. No dating material was found which could be associated with the wall.
