Archaeological testing by trial-trenching was carried out on the site of a proposed residential development at 12–24 Montpelier Hill in response to a request from Dublin Corporation for an impact statement to be prepared. The assessment was carried out on 8 September 1995. Three trenches were excavated in the area of the proposed development. The natural boulder clay was exposed close to the surface towards the south of the site with quite an amount of disturbed ground to the north. This disturbed area is probably due to the former presence of houses and other buildings along the south side of Montpelier Hill. No archaeological features were uncovered on the site and the only finds recovered were of 18th-century date or later.
