The L-shaped site was located on the southern side of South Earl St. and measured 61m north-south by 34m east-west.
Four long trenches were opened by mechanical excavator on 26 January 1995. Features of archaeological interest only survived in the two trenches located closest to Earl St.
A ditch some 7m in width and at least 1.5m in depth with a stone wall built over it occurred extending in an east-west direction. The ditch was sealed beneath late medieval deposits which underlay modern cellars.
The ditch marked the southern boundary of St Thomas's Abbey.
The site was subsequently excavated by Claire Walsh (see Excavations 1995, No. 70).
