An archaeological assessment was carried out for planning purposes. The site lies 200m east of St Mary's Abbey along the original course of the River Bradogue. The assessment was based on inspection of two trial-borings in 1991 and of four test-trenches opened in 1995. Basements crossing much of the site removed most of the underlying deposits. In two small areas, a silty, cultivated soil was encountered which was marginally archaeologically enriched; this overlay a uniform coarse sand and gravel subsoil. There were no archaeological features and no archaeological implications for the development.
