The site lies on the north side of the River Liffey, in the Hiberno-Norse suburb of Oxmantown. Previous excavations to the south of the site had revealed the remains of a substantial quay wall and a watercourse, revetted with timber. However, no archaeological deposits were located during the assessment. Deep cellars were found to penetrate into natural gravel layers.
