Cartographic evidence suggests that the medieval town wall existed at the location of this excavation of test-trenches in advance of development. They were in an area where it would be expected to locate some medieval strata, i.e. the back-garden areas of street-fronting houses, but no archaeological features were uncovered and the probability is that the medieval town lies further to the south.
