In late December a one-week excavation was carried out at the site of St. Michael's Graveyard, Wexford town. The excavation was necessitated by the collapse of the eastern boundary wall of the graveyard. A total of 12m length, 1m width and up to 2m depth was excavated but much of the material was very disturbed. A small number of in situ burials was uncovered, these were primarily leg and feet bones and appeared to be of post-medieval date. A single grave cut into the natural sand was filled with the redeposited remains of up to c. three individuals. Funding was provided by the contractor.
