Three trial trenches were undertaken on the site. The surface of natural glacial deposits was close to the present-day ground level. A backfilled cellar extended for a distance of 7m from the street front, effectively removing any potential archaeological deposits. The absence of post-medieval finds from thin lenses overlying the natural surface at the rear of the site suggests a medieval date for them. However no occupation stratigraphy was present.
