Two cuttings were opened along the line of the proposed foundations for the new development. These were located to the rear of the site as there were cellars on the frontage.
Nothing in the fills of the southern cut (total depth 1.2m) was archaeological, being apparently dumped material. In the northern cut, there was a layer, 0.7m thick, located below 1.2m of rubble and black organic material. It may have been a pit as it contained shell, bone, compressed organic matter, scraps of wood and leather offcuts. There was nothing, however, which could suggest a date for this. There had been major interference of this material with the construction of the houses which were built in the early 19th century.
