An archaeological evaluation of this site took place prior to the commencement of a housing development. Planning permission was granted by Naas UDC subject to a number of conditions, one of which dealt with the archaeological potential of the site.
Located on the eastern outskirts of Naas town, approximately 20% of the site is located within the zone of archaeological potential, as defined by the OPW (Bradley et al, 1987, UAS VII (iv), Co. Kildare, pp 343-383) and it was expected to uncover evidence for the line of the town wall. Three trenches were excavated by machine. However, the only features of interest were field drains of post-medieval date, leading to a nearby stream. No finds of archaeological interest were recovered. Given the results of the testing and the fact that the site was to be levelled up by c. 1m, no further archaeological investigation was deemed necessary.
