Trial trenching was carried out over a three-day period in advance of pipe laying for the Athy Sewerage Improvement Scheme within the area of archaeological potential in the Heritage Town of Athy.
Six cuttings were opened but no material or features of archaeological significance were discovered.
The area under investigation ran from the river Barrow westwards through the Priory car park along the unnamed street running parallel to and south of Duke St., where it has been suggested that the town wall might have been located.
