Monitoring was carried out in March 1994 on service trenches in the castle grounds. Six trenches were opened in the area immediately to the east of the castle and the bawn wall and two further trenches were examined immediately inside the north wall of the bawn on either side of the entrance-gate. No archaeological features or finds were recovered apart from a setting of brick in the extreme north-west corner of the bawn which may represent the edging for a flower-bed or a path and is of uncertain date.
