An excavation was carried out to investigate a series of features discovered during topsoil stripping on the Northern Cross Route Motorway. Features 1 and 2 were pits and Feature 3 was defined by a thin layer of small stones over which lay some burnt material including small pieces of charcoal. Feature 1 was roughly circular and measured 0.7m across, maximum depth 0.2m. The fill consisted of burnt stones (measuring 20–40mm across), with charcoal and clay. Feature 2 was about 0.5m east of Feature 1, a pit measuring 1.6m in diameter and 0.25m in depth. Excavation of a large stone (0.5m across) on the south-east boundary suggested this had been stone lined. However no archaeological material was recovered from this feature. Feature 3, which was a thin layer of burnt stone connecting Feature 1 and 2, contained no archaeological material.
