An archaeological assessment was carried out on behalf of Dublin Corporation on a small site close to the medieval Augustinian Priory of St Thomas, the main buildings of which were located at the west end of South Earl St. It was thought possible that the present site might lie on or within the precinct boundary of the priory. Three trenches, 1m wide and 4-7m long, were mechanically excavated. No archaeological deposits or features were noted over most of the site but a depression or cut, with an organic silt fill, was noted near the east end of the site. This could represent a disused watercourse or possibly an enclosing feature related to St Thomas' Abbey but the scope of the investigation did not allow for a definitive interpretation.
