An archaeological assessment was carried out on behalf of Dublin Corporation on a large site close to the medieval Cistercian Abbey of St Mary. It was thought possible that the precinct boundary of the abbey ran across the present site at some point. A single trench, 1m wide, was mechanically excavated along the centre of the site in two sections of 48m and 29m length. No archaeological deposits or features were noted apart from a large pit or gully, 3m wide and over 4.3m deep, near the northern boundary of the site. This was, however, apparently of post-medieval date and unconnected with the abbey.
