An excavation was carried out in September 1994 on the site of two previously existing houses. There were no basements under the houses and consequently it was possible to examine the remains of the late medieval timber-framed structures preserved in the boulder clay. Three foundation trenches were exposed, including two parallel trenches, of equal depth, underlying the front and back walls of the demolished houses. The trenches were filled intermittently, suggesting several phases of use over a period of 200–300 years, from the 14th–15th centuries to the 17th century. The depth of the houses came to 25 feet (8.2m), broadly corresponding to the post-medieval houses at Kirwans Lane, Galway, and Rothe House, Kilkenny. There were few internal features recovered.
