The site lies in the vicinity of the site of the medieval Franciscan Friary (see Excavations, 1994, No. 67) The exact location of the friary is not known. Four trenches were excavated on February 9, 1994. Subsoil occurred at 2.1m below modern ground level. It was overlain by a layer of cultivated soil that measured up to 1m in thickness and which contained 17th- and 18th-century pottery. Part of an articulated human burial was uncovered in the base of the cultivated soil in one trench. It appears to have been an isolated burial as no others were encountered in the other trenches.
Modern deposits overlay the post-medieval cultivation soils.
