No. 47 is located in the premises of Messrs Fruit Distributors Ltd. occupying a site which fronts onto the west side of East Arran St. and backs on to the Fruit and Vegetable Market to the west. Thus, situated between the river Bradogue and the old St Mary's Abbey it lies within an archaeologically sensitive area. Archaeological investigation was undertaken in compliance with a Decision Order issued by the Planning Department, Dublin Corporation.
Testing was carried out by means of two intersecting trenches in the area to the west of the basement within the existing premises. The underlying deposits were remarkably consistent in all cuttings and there was evidence of total disturbance at every level.
The testing revealed no deposits or features of archaeological significance.
