Archaeological test trenching was carried out on August 5, 1994. This preceded an application for planning permission to build a house. The site lies adjacent to Balrothery tower house, church and graveyard, hence the need to be archaeologically investigated prior to development.
Four trenches were dug with no finds or features of archaeological importance being observed in any of the four. In particular, no remains of a possible enclosing wall, bank or fosse associated with the tower house were found.
