The licence was granted for the purpose of monitoring trenches relating to proposed development in the vicinity of the ruined tower house at Shanagarry. Only the south and east walls of the tower house survive, to a height of one storey. The stairwell, in the south-east corner, survives to second storey height. From this corner an added wall standing two storeys high runs southwards for a distance of 7.5m, with a westward return of the south wall of c. 0.5m. This wall is likely to be surviving remains of a 17th-century house added to the tower house. Trench digging in this area revealed that this house measured 4.42m east-west. To the west of the house was an area of large flagstone paving which forms a pathway running westwards from the house.
A second trench, dug some 10m to the north of the tower house, revealed no features.
