Trial trenching took place at this site in advance of the granting of planning permission for a golf course.
The area is on part of the Vinegar Hill Battlefield, the battle taking place in June 1798. There was documentary evidence of the presence of a mass grave dating from the battle somewhere in the area, but nothing of interest was found during the trenching.
