Engineering staff noticed an unusual earthen feature whilst surveying a farm to be utilised as a municipal golf course. The feature constituted two arcs of raised earthen bank which could possible be the remains of a ringfort - though not noted on the SMR. To investigate this possibility, a strip trench measuring 47m was mechanically dug across the feature. No cut for an associated ditch existed and no disturbance of the natural A and B soil horizons was evident. It was concluded that the feature was natural and had built up around a natural rain catchment area of the field.
