The shoreline at the western side of Staad Abbey is being constantly removed by wave action. This erosion has produced a vertical section containing archaeological deposits extending about 20m long and up to about 1m in height. They consist for the most part of layers of shells, with small quantities of mammal and fish bone being present. The remains of a probable drain is also present in the section. Some human bone was noted in recent dislodged material but none was visible in situ. Excavation at the site consisted of the drawing of a 3m section of the eroded area and the sampling of the section for dating and palaeobotanical matter.
