Work is continuing along the proposed corridor of the Curlew Bypass which will carry Dublin-Sligo traffic to the north-west of Boyle, avoiding Boyle and the current steep inclines leading up and over the Curlew Mountains. This, and the other two sites described below were initially reported on by Brendán Ó Ríordáin in Excavations 1989, 45.
The proposed road corridor passes close to a ringfort and probable fulacht fiadh (Excavations 1989, 45). A series of test trenches within the proposed road-take uncovered a small French drain, evidence of previous field boundaries (shown on original OS 6" map) and a small hearth. The burnt area was located some distance from both the ringfort and the fulacht fiadh and was not associated with any other features.
