Excavation was carried out in advance of road construction in a field in which a local resident reported that a souterrain had been found early in the present century. Cuttings were opened by machine over the area affected by the proposed road, which is just south of the hillock where the souterrain is said to have been. No structural remains were found except for a stone-filled ditch alongside the present field-fence: probably a recent drain or field-boundary. The finds from this and from the topsoil were all modern, except for a flint scraper found in topsoil in the middle of the field.
