Archaeological assessment of this site was carried out in order to fulfil a request from the planning authority in advance of a planning decision of development (the construction of a bungalow).

The site lies some 120m from Silliot Hill, on which a ringfort is recorded by the Sites and Monuments Record Survey of the Office of Public Works (SMR ref. 022:032; Td. Greyabbey). It was not clear from the SMR survey if a 'prehistoric settlement' as indicated by the planning authority simply refers to the ringfort or to an earlier occupation of the site in prehistory which has been recorded elsewhere (no record of prehistoric activity on the site is recorded by the SMR).

The assessment is based on the examination of long, mechanically excavated slit trenches. Sod and topsoil were removed to expose the subsoil surface on which archaeological features could be detected, if present.

Six trenches were opened measuring between 10m and 15m in length, with Trench 3 running east-west across the entire width of the site. The trenches were bucket width, of 1.5m wide.

No archaeological features were revealed.
