Trial excavations were carried out to the rear of the "Drogheda Lodge", 66 Main St., Finglas, Dublin, on January 5th 1993. The site lies 250-300m north-east of St Canice's Early Christian church site. The exact extent of the monastery is unknown, hence the need to monitor development works in an attempt to establish its perimeters.

Four trial trenches were dug, covering the extent of the site, to determine the presence/absence of any archaeological features and/or deposits. A layer of carpark tarmac covered the site. Beneath this was a layer of dark brown garden-type soil 0.55m–0.9m deep, containing flecks of mortar, redbrick, concrete etc. Beneath this, undisturbed subsoil was observed. This stratigraphy was observed in all four trenches. No archaeological features or deposits were recovered from any of the trenches.
