This project was primarily aimed at tidying the site (after the large-scale rescue excavation of the 1970s) in preparation for its presentation.

Archaeological monitoring was required for the removal of spoil-heaps and backfilling of cuttings. Some excavated features defined by stone kerbs, for example house walls and revetments to earthen banks, were consolidated and excavated souterrains were cleared of recent collapse.

Upslope from the settlement, on the west, trial excavations were carried out on the line of a proposed land drain intended to divert surface water from the site. The trial work revealed the existence of unsuspected 19th-century features including a trackway and watering hole. Subsequently, the drainage works were completed, under archaeological supervision, in October. A further season of consolidation is planned for 1994.
