In October 1992 a human skull was discovered on the edge of a lake at Froghanstown, Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath.286 The skull had been exposed on a lakeshore, apparently as a result of trampling by cattle. No other details are recorded as to the disposition of the remains. The site was not investigated by NMI personnel and the remains were not acquired.

286. There are two townlands called Froghanstown, but although the position of the find is not marked on the map, only one townland has a number of lakes in it: parish of Faughalstown, barony of Fore. SMR WM007- 119——, exact location not marked.
