The archaeological investigation was undertaken to establish the extent, depth and nature of archaeological layers present, prior to the sale of the site. Testing revealed that whilst most of the site had been truncated by the insertion of cellars (since backfilled) there survived in the south-east corner of the site a series of archaeological layers typical of the late Viking/medieval deposits in that area of Waterford.
