The site was located on the south side of the main street. Five cuts were opened along the line of the proposed foundations to the rear of the building on the frontage, which is to be retained. These showed that there had been extensive demolition previously, as all the cuts had between 0.9m and 0.5m of rubble, consisting of small stones, immediately below the present ground level. Below this was a layer of brown soil overlying natural sandy clay or bedrock. Nothing of archaeological interest noted.
