On 3rd December, it was reported that workmen involved in the Rathkeale Sewerage Scheme had found bones opposite the Abbey. The site was inspected the following day and what appeared to be the upper half of a skeleton was recovered from the footpath. In the eastern section of the trench, under the footpath, it was possible to see the cut of a grave with more bones at the base, almost resting on the bedrock. The grave would have been orientated east-west and, given its proximity to the Abbey, seems to have been originally within the Abbey precincts. There were no associated finds.
