The testing was carried out owing to the proximity of the site to the general Lough Gur area. Permission was being sought for a private dwelling. The field is on the north-west side of Knockrahir and slopes towards the west overlooking the lake. Five cuts were opened in the area of the foundations for the proposed house and septic rank. There was between 0.95m (at the lower level) and 0.55m (at the upper level) of sterile brown soil below the sod and overlying the natural clay. Nothing of archaeological interest was noted.
