A watching brief on lowering of the basement slab on this site was carried out by Georgina Scally. The material removed was largely loose demolition rubble, however, on the southern side of the site a small area of clinker and ash yielded a number of finds of 18th-century date, most of which appear to relate to the cutler's shop next door (no.4). The finds include fragments of sharpening stones, knife handles of wood and bone, offcuts of bone and antler and 2 small stoneware bottles and a fragment of a 3rd.
