Three external rest pits, 2 on the west in Meeting House Sq. and 1 on the Eustace St frontage, and 2 further, internal test pits were opened. The pits on the west of the building revealed deposits of organic-rich, riverine silt 1.8m-3.4m below present ground level which contained material dating from the 13th century. It is not clear if this material represents the eastern limit of the Poddle estuary or the southern shoreline of the River Liffey in this location. Monitoring of building works in this area, a 4m strip at the back of the Meeting House, has been recommended. The internal pits revealed a depth of up to 1.4m of archaeological enriched soils beneath the existing basement slab. A watching brief on refurbishing works in the basement has been recommended.
