Investigation for evidence of archaeological activity took place at a proposed development site located within the boundary of an early ecclesiastical enclosure, in Killavallig Td, Co. Cork.
The enclosure has been levelled and part of its original circuit is now defined by a modern field boundary. A modern road, on a north-south axis, bisects the enclosure. The proposed house site lies just off centre within the enclosure, adjacent to, and to the east of, the road.
Three trial trenches were opened with the aid of a mechanical digger. The exposed stratigraphy consisted of a 0.2m-0.25m layer of homogenous plough soil overlying sterile subsoil. None of the trenches produced evidence of archaeological activity.
An area within the southern part of the enclosure was investigated for similar reasons in 1991 (Excavations 1991), and produced nothing of archaeological significance.
