In August 1992, a field in Curraglass previously investigated in 1991 was further excavated on the basis of the interpretation of a plantation map of 1598 which suggested the possible presence of four 'English-type' houses. Initial clearing of the site, however, suggested that the site had been contaminated by 18th-century farm buildings and the excavation was discontinued after 1 week.
Work at Curraglass was part of the continuing research project examining the archaeology of Elizabethan Munster under the direction of Dr Eric Klingelhofer of Mercer University, Macon, Georgia, and funding for the excavation was provided under the auspices of the National Committee for Archaeology of the Royal Irish Academy by the Office of Public Works.
