This was a rescue excavation funded by the developer. The site to be excavated lies at the north end of Martinslane on the east side. It is located within the extent of the medieval town. Supervision of foundation digging was stipulated by Westmeath Co. Council in the planning permission.

Three trenches were excavated on a north-east/south-west axis. The stratigraphy in each was similar; the building rubble and hard core layer was approximately 0.3m deep. Underneath was exposed a deposit 1.8m-2.1m deep of loose, soft grey/brown loamy soil which contained pockets of redeposited boulder clay. It yielded two finds of 17th/18th-century date. A soft yellow/brown natural boulder clay was exposed at a depth of 2.3m below present ground level.
