Killeigh was the site of an Early Christian monastery which adopted the Augustinian rule in the 12th century. Also at this point a convent for Augustinian nuns was established here. Proposed development in Killeigh necessitated archaeological investigation paid for by the developer.
Four trial trenches in the area were opened, but nothing of archaeological interest was noted in any of them, any disturbance noted being of modern date. On that basis, it was recommended that the proposed development be allowed to proceed as planned.
