Trial trenching took place on behalf of Limerick Co. Council in the field immediately west of the Trinitarian Priory preparatory to the construction of a heritage centre and car park. The priory was founded before 1226 and was restored in 1811 for use as the Catholic parish church. The site is shown within the priory precinct on a 1654 map of Adare. Extensive examination revealed that the field was archaeologically sterile. It would seem to have been an open area within the precinct throughout the middle ages.
