Archaeological investigations were conducted inside the Presentation Convent, James' Street, Kilkenny, between the 23rd September and 25th October 1991. The site was located inside the town wall of Kilkenny on the south side of James' Street (see also Excavations 1989, 34).
Several test trenches were dug. Most of the site consisted of garden deposits, extending back to medieval times. The original northern defences of Kilkenny may have run close to James' Street, but were not located during these tests. The site appeared to have been developed during relatively recent times. Further work is planned.
