The area was assessed for planning purposes in February 1991. The site lies just outside and to the west of the enclosure of 'The Cemetery' (bounded in this area by Peter's Row).
Ten long slit trenches were opened. One extended from the wall of a Hugenot cemetery at the north-east corner of the site, eight were opened extending back from the perimeter of the site and one central trench was opened.
There was no trace of human burial outside the present boundary, within the proposed development site.
No archaeological features or deposits were revealed, other than the foundations of demolished buildings and red-brick rubble fill over a concrete floor slab (revealed in eight of the ten trenches opened). The concrete slab lay directly on till.
