Six cuttings were opened to assess the site's archaeological potential. Access was limited at the time as many of the houses fronting the street and lanes surrounding the site were not yet demolished. [Lower Market Street to south, Chapel Lane to east, Parnell Street to north and Curtin's Lane to west.] There was very limited evidence, consisting of a layer of dark grey-brown sticky clay, of 17th-century activity on the site, and no structures were identified. Subsequently, during the construction of the new development, demolition of the extant buildings was monitored but nothing of interest was noted.
