Farm improvement consisting of the recutting of a major field drain which bisects the linear earthwork known as the 'Doon of Drumsna' (Condit and Buckley, Emania 6, (1989), 12-14) allowed the opportunity for examination of the section. Limited section cleaning of the west face of the bank revealed a compacted peat forming the old ground surface underlying the bank. At the south end of the bank a dense clay and stone concentration suggests a primary bank which was later enlarged and heightened by dumping to the north side. Samples of the peat at the old ground surface/primary bank interface were taken for C14 dating.
